Bandstand repairs – update

Lambeth Council has completed temporary repairs to make the bandstand’s floor safe for now.

The bandstand is a much loved and used feature of Ruskin Park, but we can see it is suffering increased wear and tear. As a wooden heritage structure, over a 100 years old, it is expensive to maintain and Lambeth’s normal maintenance budget is already overspent. The floor, balustrade and ceiling have suffered from high impact activities they cannot safely bear, e.g. jumping, kicking, climbing or attaching heavy equipment.

The last major overhaul was in 2017 and sooner rather than later, the bandstand needs repainting and a hardwood floor replacement. Funding has not been identified yet.

We welcome any thoughts on ways of helping Lambeth with the challenges of preserving the bandstand.
