Chess in the park
Ruskin Park now has two outdoor chess tables and chairs. Find them near the green shelter in the centre of the park or what3words ///memory.twin.bowls.
The tables were installed by Lambeth Council, with funding from government to boost the game’s accessibility by placing tables within public parks.
We held a launch event in March 2025 to encourage players of all ages and abilities to have a game. Over 20 people came and enjoyed meeting others to play in the sunny spring weather! The event was supported by the nearby Carnegie Chess Club who regularly meet in the library on Saturday afternoons. We hope to have more summer playing dates in future.
Chess and draughts pieces are now available for anyone to borrow and return from the kiosk when it’s open.
