John Ruskin at 200

The famous Victorian artist, naturalist, thinker and social philanthropist, John Ruskin, lived most of his life in Denmark Hill. He was born on 8th February 1819.

He was one of the most progressive and influential thinkers of Victorian Britain. He believed in a fair and just society, the education of women, the ethics of work and alternatives to a profit-driven society.

One of the original purposes of Ruskin Park was to ‘perpetuate the memory of John Ruskin’. We are hoping to have some activities later this year to celebrate his bicentenary and raise awareness of his astonishing ideas, life, legacy, and to explore how they are relevant today. More information to follow.
