Redevelopment of the gravel sports pitches
You might be aware from previous updates that Lambeth Council has been exploring options to redevelop the “redgra” gravel sports pitches with funding from the Football Foundation.
There has been some uncertainty about the timescale for this project but we have now been informed that public consultation is likely to begin in September, with a formal planning application to follow shortly afterwards.
We understand the proposal is for a 7-a-side artificial grass pitch – to be used mainly but not exclusively for booked activities by community sports clubs/groups – and a non-bookable, multi-use games area for informal football, basketball and netball.
The facilities – and the existing tennis courts – would be floodlit and lighting columns would be restored on the main path between Northway Road and Denmark Hill to enable access during the evening.
This would be a significant development and the Friends of Ruskin Park want to see opportunities for feedback from park users and the wider community. We are concerned that the timescale for community engagement before the formal planning application might be short. We will share further information as soon as we can.
Update: Following publication of this item, we were informed by Lambeth that the consultation has been delayed. We will share more information as soon as we can.
