Update on park improvements

January 2024

In 2022, Lambeth Council announced a £950,000 capital investment in improvements to Ruskin Park, informed in part by a strategic masterplan completed in 2019. You can read our last updates from August 2022our AGM in January 2023 and from April 2023. Friends of Ruskin Park (FoRP) have been attending the steering group to give a voice for park users. This is our report of the current progress by Lambeth:

Playground, Kiosk and Toilets

  • Works to refurbish the playground were completed in November 2023. Its size has increased and there are more activities for older children.
  • In the spring, improvements will be made to the area in front of the kiosk to give better access and seating with tables. The kiosk and both sets of toilets will also be renovated, including providing an accessible toilet.

Paths

  • There is a budget to resurface the worst areas but the final plan has not been confirmed. FoRP and ward councillors have been pushing for this work to get underway.

Lighting

  • Lambeth have recently indicated that there is additional funding available to make the lighting columns operational again after many years. We understand this would involve new heritage-style LED lanterns on the existing lamp posts.

Redgra sports pitch

  • It has been agreed that a 9-a-side football pitch would be too big for the area. Lambeth and the Football Foundation are exploring the creation of a new 7-a-side pitch, together with other multi-use sports pitches. We will give further reports as more information is available.
  • If you have any queries or comments about the programme, please email Lambeth Council – parks@lambeth.gov.uk

Kevin Crook, Assistant Director Neighbourhoods, will be attending our AGM on Tuesday 16th January for a Q&A.
